Johnson Brothers - Shop
livepages::jquery();?>Johnson Brothers was a British tableware manufacturer, known for its early introduction of "semi-porcelain" and iconic patterns like "Eternal Beau" and "Friendly Village", which gained popularity and are still collected today.
Founded in 1883, the brothers, Frederick and Alfred Johnson, focused on creating tableware that offered the charm of fine china with everyday practicality by developing their ‘semi-porcelain’ which was a blend of durability and refinement.
In 1900, a third brother, Robert, established a presence for the company in the United States and Johnson Bros was a major exporter of tableware to the States for the next 70 years.
In 1968, Johnson Brothers was absorbed by Wedgwood. In 2003, manufacture of ware under the Johnson Brothers’ name was transferred to china.
In 2008, Johnson Bros merged with Coalport and Churchill China was created. Thus, many identical wares, especially Blue Willow, will bear either the Johnson Bros or the Churchill backstamp.
Production of Johnson Bros china and pottery finally ceased in 2015.
Some of their most popular and collectible patterns include:
- Eternal Beau
- Friendly Village
- Indian Tree
- Old Britain Castles
- Historic America
- Dawn
- Willow
- Regency
Johnson Brothers china is highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts of vintage and antique china with Indian Tree and Eternal Beau being probably the most famous. Over the years, several variations of the Indian Tree pattern were produced with differences in colour intensity, detail, and backstamps.
