Royal Doulton - Shop

In 1815 John Doulton invested his life savings, £100, in a small London pottery operation. Initially a maker of storage jars and ceramic sewage pipes, Doulton grew to become a leader in the design-driven, technically innovative manufacture of fine tableware.

Theirs is a story of many firsts from the innovation of new materials and glazing techniques to collaborating with artists and designers and focusing on educating and empowering women.

In the course of 200 years, their focus on bringing premium quality and exceptional design to everybody's table has been a resounding success which earned them not one but two Royal Warrants, and the continuing love of fans the world over.

From 1853-1901, the company operated as Doulton & Co.  It became Royal Doulton in 1901 after a visit by King Edward VII who gave them the Royal Warrant.

Besides high quality fine china dinner and tea ware, Doulton produced a plethora of ranges which are still highly collectable:

  • Lambeth Stoneware
  • Burslem Decorative porcelains
  • Art Ware
  • Series Ware
  • Commemoratives
  • Figurines
  • Animal Models (Beswick)
  • Character and Toby Jugs

Over the years, Royal Doulton acquired and merged with several other prestigious ceramic manufacturing companies, probably the most well known of which were Royal Albert, Mintons and Beswick.  Royal Doulton is still in operation today and mainly produces tableware and figurines but also cookware, glassware and other home accessories such as linens, curtains, and lighting.
